Both wrinkles and lines are the culmination of many factors, including sun damage, the passage of time, bad habits like smoking and repetitive facial expressions. Even the way you sleep can play a role (hint: sleep on your back). When elastin, collagen and fat—some of the components that give our skin its structure—break down, wrinkles form and the skin begins to sag. Of course, the best wrinkle is the one you never get. Here are three ways to put those wrinkles on hold:
Protect with UVA/UVB sunscreen. The sun is the No. 1 skin ager, accelerating collagen breakdown and other signs of aging. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen daily and reapply often to protect skin.
Get topical. A variety of topical ingredients can help prevent and diminish the appearance of wrinkles, including retinol, peptides, alpha hydroxy acids, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid. For best results, use daily as part of an anti-aging skincare regimen.
Encourage firmer-looking skin. While you can’t rub collagen into your skin, you can encourage firmer-looking skin by using a non-invasive micro-exfoliating roller. With regular use, such a tool will help your skin appear firmer with lines and wrinkles becoming less noticeable.
